Electrical Industry Training Institute

The Electrical Industry Training Institute (EITI) is a wholly owned subsidiary of Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and is operated in partnership with BC Hydro, the third largest utility in Canada.

The Electrical Industry Training Institute develops and delivers practical, technical, and safety instruction for the trades at the Training Centre in Surrey, BC, and can also deliver specialized on-site training. 


Personal Accident Insurance Offer for members of Local 258 IBEW

Application for Training Assistance for members of Local 258 IBEW

According to our policies, Local 258 budgets funds to assist members to receive training and educational upgrading related to their work in our jurisdictions. Applications for assistance must be completed in writing (on the form provided), and, if approved by the membership, one-half of the member's course cost will be paid upon successful completion.

To be eligible, it is necessary to have been a member of Local 258 for at least one year, and to be in good standing. We do ask that members exhaust other opportunities for funding (such as employer paid, or Employment Insurance paid) before applying to the Local.

Tom Forkin Memorial Scholarships for Local 258 members
and their dependants

The Tom Forkin Memorial Scholarship Essay Contest was created in 1991, in memory of Local 258's first President, Brother Tom Forkin. The scholarship is open to members or dependants of members of Local 258. Up to three individual scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each are offered annually to members of Local 258 and their families.

To be eligible, applicants must be registered in, or plan to register in a full-time post-secondary educational institution. Applicants must have a letter-grade standing of C or better, and copies of the letter-grade standing must be included with the application letter. Mature students may have this requirement waived if approved by the Executive Board.

BC Hydro Power Pioneers Association was inaugurated in 1989 and since that time has expanded from 3 to 13 regional branches throughout BC representing over 4000 retirees.
