ABM Dan Giesbrecht reports members working in the Utility Arborist/Tree Trimming Sector at Asplundh Canada ULC have voted to extend the previous contract that expired on April 5, 2020 for one year with a two percent retroactive wage increase. Negotiations were impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The mail ballot was counted on July 24th and ratified by a margin of 95%.

Local 258 IBEW is reaching out to members 35 years of age and younger who want to make an impact in our Union, in the organized labour movement and in your community and help build our first NextGen Committee!
The Local 258 IBEW office in Langley remains closed to members and visitors at this time with all Assistant Business Managers working remotely. A reminder that Union dues can be paid by Visa, Master Card or E-Transfer by calling the Union Hall at 604-520-3305 or toll-free 1-877-520-3305. Staff meetings continue to take place weekly by conference call and all Union business, including member representation and servicing, remains active and ongoing. Administrative support staff continue to work on-site delivering member and Union business services. A date for the office re-opening remains undetermined.
The Union’s Executive Board continues to conduct regular monthly meetings by conference call and the next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, August 5, 2020. View the Minutes of the July Executive Board meeting here.
The next Stat Holiday is this coming weekend: BC Day, Monday, August 3, 2020. A reminder that staycations are the best, but if you’re planning to venture out or travel this long weekend, COVID-19 remains actively contagious and planning and precautions should be top of mind – fewer faces and bigger spaces – as we all, together, do our part to flatten the curve.
