December 6th is the anniversary of the horrific mass murder of 14 women at the Ecole Polytechnique in Montreal 31 years ago, in 1989.
in 1991, Canada’s Parliament formally recognized this date as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women in an effort to acknowledge the sense of grief associated with this loss and reflect on the impact of violence against women in our society.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic many traditional public gatherings have been replaced this year with virtual vigils and events have been planned to mourn the loss and honour the memory of the victims:
- Geneviève Bergeron
- Hélène Colgan
- Nathalie Croteau
- Barbara Daigneault
- Anne-Marie Edward
- Maud Haviernick
- Maryse Laganière
