Updated On: Feb 38, 2023

November 17, 2022 - Local 258 IBEW would like to extend congratulations to our brothers and sisters over at IBEW Local 213 in Port Coquitlam after their successful ruling at the Canadian Industrial Relations Board.

In 2017, workers at Ledcor Technical Solutions certified with Local 213. These members have been attempting to secure their first collective agreement ever since. NDP MPs Matthew Green (Hamilton Centre) and Bonita Zarrillo (Port Moody-Coquitlam) have issued the following statement of solidarity with IBEW 213 in their fight for a fair collective agreement:

“We would like to extend our congratulations and solidarity to IBEW 213 on their successful ruling at the Canadian Industrial Relations Board.

For more than five years, IBEW 213 has been on the front line fighting for worker rights, good wages, and a fair collective agreement. This decision confirms what IBEW 213 members already knew to be true: that Ledcor has been acting in bad faith and taking actions to undermine the collective bargaining process.

This is an important ruling to help rebalance the bargaining process and will bring IBEW 213 members one step closer to finally obtaining a fair deal.

But the fact that this process has gone on for more than five years, with workers having spent three of them on the picket line, clearly shows the need for the federal government to promptly table strong anti-scab legislation. The use of replacement workers prolongs labour disputes and are a blatant attack on workers’ rights. This legislation must outlaw the use of replacement workers and bring in significant financial penalties for any company who breaks the law by using scab labour.

New Democrats will always stand in solidarity with IBEW 213 and will continue to fight for better labour law and stronger rights for workers across Canada.”
