Senior Assistant Business Manager Jim Greenwell Retires
Posted On: Oct 03, 2025

After 32 years of outstanding service as an employee, and 50 years of service as a member, we at Local 258 IBEW bid a fond farewell to our colleague and friend, Jim Greenwell, who is retiring from his role as Senior Assistant Business Manager. Throughout his time here at the hall (spanning four Business Managers and seven Presidents), Jim has been a cornerstone of the team, known for his consistency, reliability, and his near-encyclopaedic knowledge of the last 30+ years of our Local’s history.

Jim was initiated into Local 258 in June of 1975 as an apprentice with BC Hydro, eventually becoming a Red Seal Electrician. In 1989, he was invited by then-Business Manager Gerry Bramhill to participate on a bargaining committee, which marked the beginning of his engagement with the Local Union. Four years later, Jim was offered a position as Assistant Business Manager, a role he filled reliably until his promotion to Senior Assistant Business Manager in 1997.

From the hundreds of contracts, workplace disputes, and grievances he worked on, to his tenure on the Board of Directors for both the Joint Line Apprenticeship & Training Associate (JLATA) and Skill Source, to his current role as Vice-President of Local 258, Jim’s impact has been felt far and wide across the IBEW, shaping not only the success of our Local Union but also the careers and lives of those fortunate enough to work alongside him. Please join us in thanking Jim for his incredible contributions to our members, to our Local, and to the labour movement as a whole. While we will deeply miss his presence in the office, we wish him all the best in his incredibly well-earned retirement!
