During the September unit meeting in Langley, a series of motions were introduced to amend the Local’s bylaws. The proposed amendments are comprehensive in scope. With much having changed since the Local’s inception, the time has come to review and modernize the bylaws to ensure they reflect the needs of today and the future.

In accordance with the amendment procedure, all proposed bylaw amendments must first be read and circulated at unit meetings before a membership vote can take place. Beginning in October, the proposed amendments will be presented at unit meetings across the province for first reading and circulation. Voting is scheduled to occur in person at the official November unit meetings. Bylaws cannot be amended by electronic or mail ballot, in person at official unit meetings only.

Members are encouraged to try to attend both the October and November unit meetings to take part in this important process. We understand that our units are large, and it won’t be practical for everyone to attend. We will be posting additional details, including the full text of the proposed amendments, on the secure members-only website. Members who have not yet registered for an account are encouraged to do so.
