This week, as we move into the colder weather, BC’s Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, issued new public health orders as COVID-19 transmission rates and cases are rising quickly, particularly in Surrey, Delta and Langley in the Fraser Health region. Businesses have been asked to review their COVID-19 safety plans in consideration of the expectation that people will wear masks in all indoor public spaces.
As a result, if you plan on visiting our recently re-opened Union Hall in Langley, including our Dispatch office, you must now call ahead and schedule an appointment. Please visit your Union website for our office hours and location. When at the office, you will have to follow all mandatory health & safety protocols and instructions including wearing a face mask and using hand sanitizer. You will be required to complete a COVID-19 questionnaire.
For members working at BC Hydro at GMS, please note we have signed a Letter of Understanding, effective October 27 until January 2, 2021: COVID-19 – Variation in Start Times at GMS”. You can login to your Union website to view.
After 40 years as an IBEW member, including 14 years as an Assistant Business Manager with our Local 258, Brother Dan Giesbrecht has decided to retire. Please join me in wishing Dan well in his retirement and thank him for his service to the Union. Dan’s last day will be November 30, 2020.
Effective immediately, Brother Jim Greenwell, Senior Assistant Business Manager, will be providing member services and Union representation to members working at BC Hydro in the lower mainland from the Fraser River north to Pemberton and on the Sunshine Coast. Brother Joey Sutherland has been hired to work as an Assistant Business Manager at the Union Hall in Langley to provide Union services and representation to our members working at all of our private line contractor companies in the lower mainland and Fraser Valley, and at BC Hydro in the Fraser Valley. He comes to our Union as a Journeyman Lineman and previously worked at BC Hydro and in our line contractor world. Please join me in welcoming Brother Sutherland. Union President Dave McMinn has advised that our Local 258 IBEW Unit Meetings remain cancelled until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Your Local 258 IBEW Executive Board will meet again by conference call to conduct Union Business next week on Tuesday, November 3rd.
