Please note: individual Dispatch opportunities for work with Local 258 IBEW signatory employers, including BC Hydro, are restricted to members only. Please follow the procedure below to apply for membership.

How to apply to become a member of Local 258 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers:

  1. Download, print and complete the IBEW Application for Membership form. Click Here: /Application%20For%20Membership.pdf
  2. Local 258 will require your full SIN number. Please provide your full SIN when you pay your initiation fee and/or your monthly dues.
  3. Please remember to sign the member application form. All applications submitted to the Local 258 IBEW office must be accompanied by payment of the Initiation Fee + a minimum of three months of "unemployed dues" - see below.

You can scan and email a pdf of your completed and signed application form to info@ibew258.bc.ca. Please note payment is required and you can phone in to the Local 258 IBEW Union office during regular business hours with your Visa, Mastercard or Debit card information. We are now accepting e-transfer payments and ask you to call the Union office for further details at 604-520-3305 or toll-free at 1-877-520-3305 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 3 pm).

Your completed and signed application form must be accompanied by a cheque made out to Local 258 IBEW (unless you have paid by phone or e-transfer) for the amount due

You can personally deliver your completed and signed IBEW Member Application form by visiting the Local 258 IBEW office. Payment can be made with your Visa, Mastercard or Debit card, or by cheque made out to Local 258 IBEW.


IBEW Member Application Fee:

Payment of $77.50 (for your initiation fee + 3 months unemployed dues (BA membership)) is required to be included with your completed and signed application form.

Payment options include: credit card or debit Visa payment by phone - call the Local 258 IBEW Union Hall at 604-520-3305 or toll free 1-877-520-3305 (Monday to Friday 9 am to 3 pm); if you are coming into the Union Hall to make a payment in person, you can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Debit.

Please note:

Unemployed dues for "A" members are $43.50/month (current 2023) - 3 months = $130.50
Unemployed dues for "BA" members are $22.50/month (current 2023) - 3 months = $67.50

Once your Application for Membership and accompanying payment is received, your application will be reviewed by the Local 258 IBEW Executive Board at its monthly meeting and will then be processed. If your application is approved, you will be notified by postal mail with a Welcome letter and an IBEW membership card that will include your IBEW membership number. As an active Local 258 IBEW member, you can then apply to register for your Member Account on your Union's password-protected website to find additional resources, information, events and news about your Union.

The information below shows the steps that Journeymen Power Line Technicians (PLTs) from outside of British Columbia need to follow to be eligible for dispatch by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 258 office for work with BC Hydro or with one of the Union’s signatory Private Power Line Contractors.
