August 18, 2020 - Together with my Assistant Business Managers we invite you to visit your new, redesigned website at www.ibew258.bc.ca. We selected this ‘responsive’ design for our website for easier accessibility and viewability on any device – smart phone, tablet or desktop computer. When you log-in to your Member Account, you now have improved access to a wider range of resources and information, including a Find My Shop Steward list, organized by workplace. Feedback, including suggestions for anything you’d like to see, is welcome – please send an email to communications@ibew258.bc.ca.
Coinciding with the new website is our first Local 258 IBEW App, now available for your Apple or Android smart phone and tablet devices. Simply log in to your Member Account and click on the icon in the left column on your Member Home page, read and follow the instructions to download and install the App. By downloading the Local 258 IBEW App, you will now have an additional way to find out about your Union and receive important news items.
Hot weather is in the forecast and, unfortunately, so is a rise in cases of COVID-19 in BC. Remember to keep safely within your bubble of family & friends, to wash your hands, maintain social distancing and wear a mask. Stay safe when working outdoors on those hot days. A reminder that our Local 258 IBEW Women’s Committee is raising funds to help support Food Banks BC! For members in Units 5 & 6, a drop-off bottle drive has been scheduled for Saturday, August 29th in Surrey – please participate if you can. And you can still donate your empty beverage bottles, cans and containers refund directly to the Committee’s “Project Bottle Drive to Survive”.
Local 258 IBEW is reaching out to members 35 years of age and younger who want to make an impact in our Union, in the organized labour movement and in your community and help build our first NextGen Committee!
The Local 258 IBEW office in Langley remains closed to members and visitors at this time, however our Assistant Business Managers based in Langley have returned to working out of the office. A reminder that Union dues can be paid by Visa, Master Card or E-Transfer by calling the Union Hall at 604-520-3305 or toll-free 1-877-520-3305.
The Union’s Executive Board continues to conduct regular monthly meetings by conference call and the next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 1, 2020. Log-in to your Member Account to view the Minutes of the August Executive Board meeting.
The next Stat Holiday is: Labour Day, Monday, September 7, 2020. A reminder that staycations are the best, but if you’re planning to venture out or travel on the Labour Day long weekend, COVID-19 remains actively contagious and planning and precautions should be top of mind – fewer faces and bigger spaces – as we all, together, do our part to flatten the curve.
