Tentative agreement reached for members working in tree trimming at Asplundh
Updated On: Oct 14, 2020

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 - For members who are registered on the website, the new agreement has now been posted. Please log-in to view under My Collective Agreement.

UPDATE JULY 26, 2020 - Members working at Asplundh have ratified the one-year contract extension that features a two percent retroactive wage increase by a margin of 95% in a mail ballot vote counted on July 24, 2020.

June 24, 2020 – Brother Dan Giesbrecht, Local 258 IBEW Assistant Business Manager, reports negotiations for a new contract for members working at Asplundh Canada resumed earlier this month and took place by conference call. Negotiations were previously suspended in mid-March, agreed to by both sides, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

A tentative agreement has now been reached and is a rollover of the previous contract for a term of one year, and features a two percent wage increase retroactive to April 6, 2020. The previous contract expired on April 5, 2020.

“With the difficulty in getting together to negotiate in-person due to the fact this employer’s negotiator is based in the USA and could not travel because of border restrictions resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, both sides agreed to the roll-over of the previous contract,” says Brother Giesbrecht.

Voting packages, including a ballot and postage-paid return envelope, will be mailed this week to Local 258 IBEW members who work at Asplundh – please make sure your address is current with your Union. You can register on your Union website with your current address or update your address by logging in and selecting Member Forms – online address change.

Ballots will be counted on Friday, July 24, 2020, when the vote results will be announced.

Many thanks to Brother Tim Mitchell and Brother Greg Lasota who serve as Shop Stewards at Asplundh and who also stepped forward to serve on the bargaining committee in these negotiations.
