Canada Day 2021
Updated On: Jul 194, 2021

From IBEW Canada

Posted July 1st, 2021While we are very grateful to live in a country where we enjoy many privileges, we must acknowledge that these privileges aren’t equitably distributed. The recent news of the discovery of remains and unmarked graves from residential schools has shone a much needed light on Canada’s dark history and our horrible treatment of Indigenous Peoples.

This year as we observe Canada Day, let’s take the time to learn more about the history of Indigenous Peoples in Canada. More importantly let’s commit to reconciliation and repair the relationship with our First Nations, Métis and Inuit people. Let’s work together to make this a nation where we can all be proud to live.

Thank you for all that you do for the benefit of our members, the advancement of the IBEW, the labour movement, and society as a whole. Let’s use this Canada Day to educate our family and friends and reflect on how we can work towards building a more inclusive country.

In solidarity,

Tom Reid
International Vice President, First District (Canada)
