Master Line negotiations update May 19, 2022
Updated On: Jun 164, 2022

UPDATE MAY 19, 2022

Two days of mediated hearings on May 12 & 13 have resulted in a tentative agreement being reached between the Union and the private power line/outside construction employers’ group in the Master Line Agreement negotiations.

The Union is now in the process of preparing the details of the ballot items for an electronic vote by members that will be counted on Monday, May 23rd.

The mediated talks were described as “rough” by Local 258’s lead negotiator Garnet Zimmerman, adding, “We worked very hard to get everything we could and believe there was nothing left on the table. The Union is recommending acceptance of the agreement.”

POSTED APRIL 29, 2022

We have been in contract negotiations with the Employer Association for Master Line Collective Agreement since November 2021.  We have had two offers that were presented to the membership of which both have been rejected.  The Union conducted a strike vote and was successful in obtaining 88% in support of strike action. The required 72 hour strike notification was provided to the Employer Association, and in response to that notification, the Employer Association has applied for mediation.

We are waiting for the Labour Relations Board to set a date to begin the mediation process.  No job action can occur while the parties are in mediation. We are hopeful that we will be successful in concluding a collective agreement that is fair and equitable to all parties concerned.

Our primary goal is to protect the welfare of our members and their families.
