Brother Cody Gatzke, Local 258 IBEW Business Manager and Financial Secretary reports a majority of members working at BC Hydro have voted in favour of the proposed tentative agreement reached in late December 2022.
“For the first time, members working at BC Hydro voted electronically over a three-week period using an approved and secure program called Simply Voting,” said Gatzke.
Results, tabulated on January 24th after voting closed, revealed 79.8% of the 1955 members who work at BC Hydro voted and from that total, 71.6% (1117) voted in favour and 28.4% (443) were opposed, ratifying the new collective agreement that comes into effect immediately.
The new 3-year agreement features improvements to wages, allowances, job descriptions, contract language as well as improvements to the benefit package. The bargaining committee successfully fought back against significant concessions the employer was seeking.
The new agreement is retroactive to March 31, 2022, the expiry date of the last agreement. Members should receive their retroactive pay in the February 17th pay period.
